THE GROUPS: They will be mainly younger people of age 18 - 40 years but there is always room for the active and young at heart, though a reasonable level of physical fitness is required to cope with the altitudes experienced and the active practical nature of camping.
Overland travel has an emphasis on adventure and at times can be challenging in different ways for different people. We maintain an optional extra excursion list to help people to decide on route what activities are best suited for them and to give them time to develop the courage or inspiration if they need it, to try new things along the way.
While we do occasionally have the opportunity to enjoy the nightlife of different countries along the way, there will be times when we are on the road for long durations in order to travel the large distances that we cover. We may camp in remote places with minimal or no facilities.
Overland travel is far from a package tour and group participation is a very important contributing factor to the success of your tour.


CAMPING: We use a combination of camping and hotels. The amount of camping varies for the different trips but on average it is approximately between 50% and 85% of the time. We endeavour to free camp as much as possible. It is an excellent way to take in the surroundings and it also reduces the amount spent from your kitty. There are generally no facilities available when we do this. We use budget hotels in cities and when camping is impractical.Three or four man tents are supplied per 2 passengers to provide plenty of sleeping space. All you will need to bring is your own roll mat and sleeping bag.


FOOD: We take turns to cook, normally on a roster system. Our trucks are self-sufficient being equipped with gas cooking facilities, a fully equipped kitchen with kitchen utensils and enough plates, cups and cutlery for every passenger.

KITTY: The kitty is collected by the driver on departure and is payable in $US cash. it is used for food prepared on the truck when travelling and camping, hotel and campsite fees, National Park and other entrance fees and local guides. Excursions by local operators are also paid from the kitty.. We keep individual kitties for each passenger to offer more flexibility for passengers wishing to spend more or less on their accommodation. It is a variable and non-profit amount, which we endeavour to conservatively forecast. Upon completion of your tour, any remaining kitty will be refunded to you. Equally, if your accommodation or food costs exceed the forecasted sum then it will be necessary for an additional contribution from you.
